The Illusion of Balance: Notes from a Sunday in the Messy Middle

It’s Sunday.
And like most Sundays lately, I started my day outside...just me, the pavement, and a mix of worship music, Kendrick Lamar, and scrolling TikTok. I got in a 7-mile walk before the Valley heat crept into the high 90s. But instead of unplugging or soaking in the quiet, my mind did what it always does in this season: it spiraled around work.

Business has been in a weird place. Slow. Unpredictable. And filled with more “grown-up” decisions than I’d like to admit. You know that space where you’re not sinking, but you’re definitely not coasting either? That’s where I’m living right now. Somewhere between holding on and letting go. Between optimism and realism. It’s what I call the messy middle of entrepreneurship.
After my walk, I came home and realized I needed clarity, the kind you don’t get while multitasking or answering emails from the couch. So I drove to the office. On a Sunday. Just to sit in silence, clear the mental clutter, and game plan a few things. And honestly, it helped. Sometimes solitude is the strategy.
From there, it was errands, a quick nap, and then back to the grind to finish a proposal. Again...on a Sunday.
It made me pause and ask:
What happened to rest?
What happened to boundaries?
To Sundays that felt like Sundays?
Here’s the truth a lot of entrepreneurs won’t say out loud: balance doesn’t always exist in every season. And while I deeply believe in rest and restoration, I also know there are moments when work bleeds into everything—when your brain can’t clock out because the stakes feel too high.
So no, this isn’t a blog about how I’ve mastered work/life balance. It’s more of a journal entry from the trenches. A reminder to myself (and maybe to you, too) that it's okay if you're in a season where balance looks more like survival. Where progress means just staying in motion.
I’m figuring it out.
Kind of.
And for now, that has to be enough.
More soon 💛
